David constructed the Alliance within Boots’ construction supply chain. Over 4 years, it reversed a 10% disadvantage into a 10% advantage over competitors.
An Alliance is more than a system of 'approved suppliers’. It is an alliance between global players like AMEC / Wood Group, and their more agile local suppliers, who agree to share learning and to develop best practice.
Each Supplier is able to interrogate the supply chain and find new partners for innovation and best practice.
David’s point of difference was in the high level of trust achieved. Suppliers agree to share trade secrets and enter "shared gain, shared pain" contracts with Boots. When a warehouse was destroyed by fire pre-Christmas, it was reconstructed in record time and within budget.
